"The Aruk cross-border post has to boost local economy so that this area can be further developed," Cornelis said, in his speech during the inauguration of the Aruk cross-border post here on Friday.
According to him, the Aruk cross-border post is the most luxurious post among other posts in West Kalimantan province.
Meanwhile, President Joko Widodo, who has inaugurated the Aruk cross-border post, also hoped the post will not only be treated as a government office, but also as an economic center for the people.
"Dont just use the immigration office, quarantine office, customs office. People can take advantage from the cross-border post to boost the economy," the president said.
The Aruk cross-border post is spread over 2.9 thousand square meters in an area of 9.1 hectares, consisting of a main building, an integrated checking building, a pump and generator house, a warehouse, car wash, check points and other buildings.
There will be a second phase of post construction, covering an area of 4.44 thousand square meters on 17.99 hectares of land for employees houses, rest areas, border markets, as well as a multi-purpose building.
The design of Aruks cross-border post building was inspired from traditional architecture of the Dayak Kalimantan tribe, namely Rumah Panjang (which literally means a long house), while the main building ornaments take inspiration from the Dayaks traditional carving patterns.
If the construction goes well, it is estimated that 240 people and 120 vehicles will pass through the Aruk cross-border post per day in 2020. (*)
