Jakarta (ANTARA News) - US Vice President Michael Richard Pence and Indonesian President Joko Widodo watched the Balinese Pendet dance at the State Palace in Jakarta.

Pendet dance was a simple welcome dance choreographed to welcome Pence and his wife Karen Pence.

The dance was performed by five girls carrying bowls of petals.

During the welcoming ceremony, Widodo was accompanied by State Secretary Pratikno and Minister of Foreign Affairs Retno LP Marsudi.

On the occasion, Indonesia and the United States expressed commitment to cooperate in trade and declared the same view regarding world peace.

"As the largest Muslim country in the world and third largest democracy, we also agree to strengthen cooperation in the field of peace," Widodo stated.

Moreover, Pence noted that the two countries actually shared the same views about peace.

"We share the same views of basic values such as freedom, law enforcement, human rights, and differences of faith," he remarked.

He pointed out that the two countries would work more closely for the common interests of both countries as well as for the interests of Southeast Asia as a whole.(*)
