Bengkulu (ANTARA News) - A policeman in the Indonesian city of Bengkulu accidentally killed his own son whom he mistook for a criminal entering his house in Suka Merindu Village here, Wednesday, prior to the pre-dawn prayer of Subuh.

A postmortem examination was conducted on the body of the 14-year-old victim, identified by the initials BA, before being buried in a local cemetery, Chief of Bengkulu Citys Police Adjunct Senior Commissioner Ardian Indra Nurinta revealed.

The teenager, a junior high school student, was shot dead by his father, identified by the initials BS, at about 4 a.m. local time in his house, Nurinta remarked.

The victims father might have mistook him for a criminal trying to enter his house, he said.

BAs death has drawn sympathy of his relatives, neighbors, friends, and his schools principal, Heri Winarno.

According to Winarno, who visited the hospital along with tens of students and teaching staff to have a last glimpse of the deceased, whose body was placed on a table of the M. Yunus Hospitals autopsy room, BA was a good and diligent student.(*)
