Jayapura, Papua (ANTARA News) - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) on Tuesday officially commissioned border checkpoint in Skouw in the Muara Tami district of the city of Jayapura.

Jokowi was on a visit here accompanied by a number of officials from Jakarta including Public Works and Housing Minister Basuki Hadimoeljono, Military Chief Gen. Gatot Nurmantyo and Army chief of staff Gen.Moeljono to inspect the Skouw border checkpoint.

The president promised to build a market center soon for the local people in Skouw, which borders on Papua New Guinea.

"Development of supporting facility will take place immediately around the Skouw checkpoint," Jokowi said , adding the border market center would contribute to the welfare of the people.

Most of the buyers at the market are expected people from across the border.

The president also commissioned a gas fired power plant in Holtekam, not far from Skouw.(*)
