Langkat, N Sumatra (ANTARA News) - Police in Langkat district, North Sumatra province, has arrested two people on charges of carrying 10.6 kilograms of hashish in a recent raid.

"The two were arrested when the police conducted a raid on a bus plying from Aceh to Medan," Chief of the Langkat District Police Adjunct Senior Commissioner Dede Rojudin said on Friday.

One of the suspects is a 41-year old housewife identified by her initials as CJ. She lives in Samliar hamlet, Wih Pesam sub-district, Bener Meriah district.

She was found carrying 7,828 grams of hashish while she was traveling by the bus, he said.

During the raid held in front of Sei Karang Stabat police post in Langkat district, the police also arrested a 50-year old man identified by his initials as HAR on charges of carrying 2,846 grams of hashish, he said.

The police has interrogated them intensively. They are charged with violating article 115 (2) sub-article 111 (2) of Law No. 35/2009 concerning narcotics, he said.

If found guilty, they can be sentenced to up to 20 years in jail and fined up to Rp1 billion.(*)
