Tasikmalaysa, W Java (ANTARA News) - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) symbolically distributed Smart Indonesia Cards (KIP) to 1.5 thousand students of elementary and high schools during an event held at the state-run junior high school SMPN 2, here, Friday.

"I urge that the existing budget and funds available in these cards should be spent on school-related needs and education," he said.

Of the total 1.5 thousand students, 575 are elementary school students, 238 junior high school students, 133 senior high school students, and 340 students of vocational schools.

Besides this, other recipients include 40 students of the A package study group, 61 of the B package study group, and 113 students of the C package study group.

The funds available in the cards must not be used to buy phone talk time vouchers or to meet other non-educational needs, he emphasized.

The government will provide KIP funds annually to help Indonesian children complete their education.

Under the KIP program, an elementary school student annually receives Rp450 thousand; a junior high school student, Rp750 thousand; and a senior high school or vocational school student, Rp1 million.

"Once again, I remind the children to study well," Jokowi stated.(*)
