Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Only 60 percent of intercity and inter-provincial (AKAP) buses which will carry home-bound Idul Fitri travelers are roadworthy, Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi said.

"In general, we are satisfied with the results of a ramp check, except land transportation in which only 60 percent of the buses are roadworthy," he said in a discussion on the governments preparations to anticipate safe, secure and comfortable homecoming at the Transportation Ministry here on Sunday.

There is still one week left to repair the rest to make them roadworthy, he said.

If the buses are not roadworthy, they will not be allowed to carry home-bound Idul Fitri travelers, he said.

"If the buses have no stickers, we will not allow them to operate. Therefore, we ask the police and transportation offices to ticket them," he said.

Data from the Directorate General of Land Transportation show 5,026 or 43 percent of 11,605 buses checked are roadworthy, 1,632 buses or 12 percent must be repaired and 4,947 buses or 42 percent are not roadworthy.

The post-fasting month Idul Fitri festivities this years are expected to fall on June 25 and 26.(*)
