The launch of the IT-CEPA negotiations took place at the Turkish Presidential Palace of Beyaz Saray or so-called the White Palace, witnessed by President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) and President Recep Tayyip Erdogan after the two held a bilateral meeting at the palace.
The launch was marked by the signing of negotiation documents by representatives of both countries.
Indonesia was represented by Trade Minister Enggartiasto Lukita.
"We have agreed to restore positive trends of trade and investment, among others through the negotiation of IT-CEPA," President Jokowi said in a joint press statement.
The President said that both countries have agreed to reduce and end trade barriers between the two countries as well as create a conducive investment climate.
President Jokowi also encouraged Turkish investment in the country especially in the areas of maritime, infrastructure and energy.(*)
