Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Indonesias President Joko Widodo has lauded the National Police for its good work in securing Ramadan and Eid holiday 2017 through a special 16-day operation called "Ramadniya" from June 14 to July 4.

President Widodo stated in his remarks as the inspector chief during the ceremony of the 71th National Police anniversary, or "Bhayangkara Day," at the National Monument Square in Jakarta, on Monday, that a couple of examples had showcased their good work.

"During the holy month of Ramadan, public order and security was conducive, people felt safe, homebound traffic was swift and smooth, traffic accidents dropped drastically, and the prices of basic commodities were stable," he noted.

"Once again, I laud and value the hard work of all Indonesian police personnel, both posted in big cities and remote areas across the country," he noted.

The ceremony was also attended by First Lady Iriana Joko Widodo, Vice President Jusuf Kalla and spouse Mufidah, former president Megawati Soekarno Putri, former vice president Try Sutrisno, heads and chiefs of state institutions, and foreign ambassadors.

President Widodo also wished the members of the National Police happy Eid al-Fitr, as the Bhayangkara Day, which originally falls on 1st of July, coincided with the Ramadniya operation.

"At the commemoration of the 71th Bhayangkara Day, on behalf of the state and government, I would like to say thank you very much for your hard work and your dedication in maintaining publics security and order, the results of which are visible and real," President Widodo said.

During the event, President Widodo bestowed the "Bintang Bhayangkata Narariya" award to four police officers.

Some 2,408 combined personnel of the National Police, Indonesian Military, Public Order Security Agency, and Scout members participated in the commemorations ceremony.

Some attractions -- parachute jump, brass band, and colossal dance themed unity in diversity or "Bhinneka Tunggal Ika" -- were performed by the police personnel and professional dancers.(*)
