Jakarta (ANTARA News) - President Joko Widodo reminded on Monday new graduates of the countrys military and police academy of global threats in the future to the country both politically, economically and in security.

The president was speaking to the new graduates to be installed young military and police officers on Tuesday.

"The new graduates to be installed military and police officers here tomorrow are young men. Therefore, they need to have visions for the futures threat they will face," the president said.

The threats will change to follow the rapid changes in political, economic and security landscape, therefore, the young officer need to be able to anticipate the change, he added.

He said the relevance of various programs including in procurement has to be carefully anticipated to follow the change in the era.

For example, procurement of tanks need to be evaluated as currently the vast archipelago made up of 17,000 small and big islands may need drones more than tanks , he said.

The drones would be needed to detect what happens along the countrys long borders, and to monitor terrorist activities in forests, he cited.

The country also needs to think over the concept of cyber security given the rapid advance of technology, he said.

"Drones will also needed to detect suspicious movements of floating things in the sea, therefore, the effects of the changes need to be anticipated from now," he said.(*)
