Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Indonesian government, through the Ministry of National Development Planning and the National Development Planning Agency, will synchronize its strategic development plans with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

This will be carried out through the Presidential Decree number 59 in 2017 on the implementation of the achievement of sustainable development objectives signed by President Joko Widodo on July 4 and promulgated by Minister of Law and Human Rights Yasonna Laoly on July 10.

United Nations Resident Coordinator Anita Nirody stated during the media briefing on the launching of Presidential Decree of SDGs in the National Development Agencys (Bappenas) building in Jakarta on Monday that the UN is pleased to be a partner with the Government of Indonesia to implement the SDGs that are fully aligned with the nations development priorities.

"Today, I would like to congratulate the government for the recent Presidential Decree on the SDGs, which is a major milestone in implementing the goals further," she remarked.

She further stated that from the very start, the Republic of Indonesia has shown leadership on shaping and implementing these goals, as the country played a key role in the formulation of the SDGs as co-chair of the High Level Panel on Agenda 2030, which is also known as the SDGs.

The UNs SDG is a set of global objectives, issued by the UN, that consist of 17 main areas, including No Poverty; Zero Hunger; Good Health and Well-Being; Quality Education; Gender Equality; Clean Water and Sanitation; Affordable and Clean Energy; Decent Work and Economic Growth; Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure; Reduced Inequalities; Sustainable Cities and Communities; Responsible Consumption and Production; Climate Action; Life Below Water; Life on Land; Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions; and Partnerships for the Goals.

Minister of National Development Planning Bambang Brodjonegoro had previously remarked that for Indonesia, the SDGs are not only relevant as a form of global commitment but also as a guide for it to become a developed country.

He believed that the issuance of the Presidential Decree number 59 of 2017 indicated the governments consistency in legitimizing the SDGs agenda into the countrys national development planning.

The decree itself has put an emphasis on the involvement of all stakeholders through four participation platforms, including Government and Parliament, Philanthropy and Business, Mass Organizations, as well as Academics and Experts in succeeding the achievement of the SDGs agenda.

Furthermore, the Presidential Decree on the SDGs aim to maintain the integrated increase of the peoples welfare, keeping the sustainability of the communitys social life, maintaining environmental quality, inclusive development and growth, as well as a system of governance that will be able to maintain the quality of life from one generation to the next.

"The implementation of the SDGs also means that we are carrying out our national development goals," he noted. (*)
