Jakarta (ANTARA News) - National Defense Forces (TNI) Chief General Gatot Nurmantyo received the Spanish Naval Chief of Staff Admiral Teodoro Esteban Lopez Calderon who paid a courtesy call at the TNI Headquarters in Cilangkap, East Jakarta, on Wednesday.

The visit was aimed at enhancing bilateral ties between the two armed forces to create conducive situation and condition in the face of global competition.

At the meeting with General Nurmantyo, Calderon was accompanied by Spanish Ambassador to Indonesia Y M Jose Maria Matres Manso.

Earlier, Calderon paid a courtesy call on Indonesian Naval Chief of Staff Admiral Ade Supandi at the Navy Headquarters also in Cilangkap.

The naval information service said in a press statement released on Wednesday the two naval chiefs discussed a number of issues, particularly those related to the navies of the two countries.

While in Indonesia, Calderon is also scheduled to visit Pertahanan (Defense) University as a guest lecturer at the university.

Calderon took office as the Spanish Naval Chief of Staff in March 2017. Being appointed as naval chief of staff, Calderon held a number of strategic posts including Commander of the 41st Escort Squadron, Commanding Officer of frigate "Cataluna", Commander 2nd Squadron of Minesweepers, Chief of Staff of the 21st Escort Squadron and Staff member of the "Delta" Group.
