Kupang, East Nusa Tenggara (ANTARA News) - The Indonesian flag carrier, Garuda Indonesia, launched a direct flight from Kupang (East Nusa Tenggara) to Makasar (South Sulawesi), round trip, today.

"The flight starts today," Garuda Indonesia General Manager for Kupang Area, Kokoh Ritonga, told ANTARA here on Saturday.

He said the Kupang-Makasar round trip flight is available on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, on a CRJ1000 Bombardier fleet that can accommodate 92 passengers.

"The schedule runs on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, taking off from Kupang at 19.05 local time and arriving in Makassar at 20.25 local time, while from Makassar, the plane takes off at 16:50 local time and arrives in Kupang at 18.25 local time," he noted.

Kokoh expressed hope that the Kupang-Makassar direct flight would connect the two areas of Sulawesi (Makassar) and East Nusa Tenggara (Kupang).

So far, he added, people who wanted to travel to Makassar have had to first transit Surabaya (East Java) or Denpasar (Bali), and the ticket price was quite expensive.

"With this direct flight, traveling becomes faster," he remarked.
