Beijing (ANTARA News) - Indonesia`s team comprising 13 senior high school students of state-run SMAN 28 and private SMA Al Azhar 19 won a silver medal in the International Robot Olympiad (IRO) held in Qinhuangdao, Hebei Province, China.

At the Public Safety and Security competition held on December 14-21, 2017, Indonesia won the silver medal for the Robot in Movie category.

Moreover, it also won the Technical Award in the Creative Team category.

"We are proud of our children who are carrying the Red and White national flag and have emerged victorious internationally," Riza Muhida, Ph.D, of the University of Lampung, remarked here, Friday.

The students competed in full spirit and with self-confidence, he said.

Their rivals included students from Germany, South Korea, Malaysia, Thailand, the Philippines, Singapore, and Saudi Arabia, as well as several others from Latin America and Central Asia.

The IRO was held for the first time in Seoul, South Korea, in 1999.

The IRO is held to promote scientific thinking among teenagers, develop the talent of students interested in the field of robotics, increase the demand for private robots, and enhance awareness on the culture of robotics.
