Banda Aceh (ANTARA News) - At least 22 paintings were exhibited in the front yard of Al Ikhlas Mosque to commemorate 13 years since the tsunami and mega earthquake hit Gampong Meunasah Tuha of Aceh Besar District.

"The painting exhibition is the last program of Saweu Sikula 2017 from Aceh Arts and Culture studio, supported by Aceh Tourism and Culture Service," the painting curator, Zul MS, stated here on Tuesday.

The paintings were created by 30 junior and senior high school students.

The event raised themes of disasters such as tsunami, meteor shower, whirlwind, and landslide.

Before creating a painting, the students receive lessons on canvas painting technique for three months.

"We introduce them to basic painting techniques, sketch techniques, as well as pictures of shapes. Thus, they can paint their imaginations of disasters on canvas smoothly," Zul remarked.

Meanwhile, the Head of Tourism and Culture Service for Aceh, Reza Fahlevi, appreciated the painting exhibition. He hoped the event could give rise to new professional painters.

"We want to instill the art of painting in children at a very early age to create famous painters in Indonesia," Fahlevi revealed.
