Banyumas, C Java (ANTARA News) - A whirlwind has damaged 156 houses in Banyumas District, Central Java Province, on Thursday afternoon, Jan 11.

"The whirlwind struck last Thursday at 5 p.m. local time. As a result, two houses collapsed," Coordinator of the Disaster Preparedness Community of Banyumas Ady Candra stated here on Friday.

The whirlwind struck the villages of Banteran, Klapagading, and Klapagading Kulon in Wangon Sub-district. Meanwhile, the whirlwind phenomenon also affected the Tinggarjaya Village in Jatilawang Sub-district.

The whirlwind uprooted trees and damaged several houses. The collapsed houses are located in Klapagading Kulon Village.

Candra remarked that the number of damaged houses could increase, as the officers are still calculating the extent of damage.

He added that the local people are helping the affected communities to remove the fallen trees and debris.

Meanwhile, Muhammad Mahfud, a resident of Klapagading Village, stated that no casualty was reported in the disaster.

Additionally, the Banyumas Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency had noted on early Friday that the total number of damaged houses reached 174.
