Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has named a Jambi governor, identified by his initials as ZZ, a suspect in a bribery case.

"The KPK has found sufficient preliminary evidence pointing to alleged bribery related to projects in Jambi Province. The KPK has named two new suspects in the case. They are ZZ, Jambi governor for the 2016-2021 term, and ARN, chief of the highway construction section of the public works and people`s housing office," KPK Deputy Chief Basaria Panjaitan said at a press conference at the KPK building here on Friday.

The alleged bribe amounts to an estimated Rp6 billion.

"It is alleged that ZZ has individually or jointly with ARN received bribes related to projects in Jambi Province and other bribes during his 2016-2021 term, for a total value of around Rp6 billion," she noted.

ZZ and ARN have been charged with violating article 12B or article 11 of Law No. 31/1999, as amended by Law No. 20/2001, adj. article 55, paragraph 1, of the penal code.

Article 12B stipulates that any gifts given to a civil servant or state apparatus will be regarded as a bribe if it is related to his/her post and requires a violation of his/her obligations or tasks. If found guilty, the suspects could be sentenced to a minimum of four years and a maximum of 20 years in prison and fined a minimum of Rp200 million and a maximum of Rp1 billion.
