Jakarta (ANTARA News) - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) discussed the follow-up on the One-Map Policy in a closed-door cabinet meeting at the Presidential Office here on Monday, in an attempt to improve the country`s spatial data.

"The One-Map Policy is very important, very urgent, and needed most to harmonize all information produced by various sector, ministries, and institutions into one integrative map," Jokowi stated.

The president elaborated that the policy could avoid information discrepancy, with one reference for strategic policy making, as well as issuance of a license.

An overlap on licensing and map data would spark conflict among the public as well as institutions, which could hamper economic growth in a region.

"I have information that in Kalimantan there are 4 million hectares of forest overlapped with plantation area," Jokowi noted.

The closed-door meeting was attended by some cabinet ministers, including the Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs Luhut Binsar Panjaitan, Agrarian Affairs and Spatial Layout Minister Sofyan Djalil, Forestry and Environment Minister Siti Nurbaya, and chief of presidential staff Moeldoko.

Jokowi has issued a Presidential Decree no. 9/2016 to speed up the implementation of the One-Map Policy.

The decree stated that the implementation of the policy with map scale 1:50,000 is aimed to materialize one map, which refers to geospatial reference, single standard, single data reference, and geoportal in national development.

The single reference is expected to avoid dispute sparked by the overlapping of land ownership, because it would cover data on land coordinates and regional border.

The government has finalized the integration of the One-Map Policy in Kalimantan in 2016, while the integration in other regions, including Sumatra, Sulawesi, Bali, East Nusa Tenggara, and West Nusa Tenggara, was started in 2017.

It has targeted to complete the integration of the policy in Papua, Maluku, and Java Island in 2018.
