Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Home Affairs Minister Tjahjo Kumolo has scrapped 51 regulations to cut lengthy bureaucracy.

"Today I scrapped 51 regulations of the home affairs minister that have hampered bureaucracy and led to lengthy bureaucracy. I think this is the initial phase since the Constitutional Court`s verdict cannot cancel bylaws," he said at a coordination meeting with governors, regional secretaries and the directorate general of national unity and politics from all over Indonesia on Wednesday.

The regulations that have been scrapped are among others related to local administration, researches, micro small and medium businesses, taxation, education and training, personnel affairs, disaster mitigation, spatial layout and licensing, communication and telecommunication, and national outlook.

Tjahjo said the decision to scrap the regulations is relevant to directives from President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) who wants the related government agencies to ease investment licensing process in the country.

The minister went on to say that he will soon revoke provisions on medium-term development plan for villages (RPJMD) to enable village heads to focus on rural assistance program.

The meeting also discussed ways to optimize regions` role in addressing radicalism, terrorism and natural disasters.

Also present at the meeting were Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Wiranto, West Java Governor Ahmad Heryawan, East Java Governor Soekarwo, South Sulawesi Governor Syahrul Yasin Limpo, and South Sumatra Governor Alex Noerdin.
