Jakarta (ANTARA News) - State-owned airport operator PT Angkasa Pura I said it will invest Rp18.8 trillion in 2018 building a number of airport infrastructure to meet growing number of air passengers.

"The main problem faced so far is limited capacity of airports to serve the fast growing number of passenger," Chief Executive of PT Angkasa Pura I Faik Fahmi said here on Saturday.

Faik Fahmi said the number of passengers had grown faster than airport capacity expansion.

He said the company is in charge of 13 airports in Central and Eastern regions of Indonesia.

The 13 airports include I Gusti Ngurah Rai Bali, Juanda Surabaya, Sultan Hasanuddin Makassar, Sultan Aji Muhammad Sulaiman Sepinggan Balikpapan, Frans Kaisiepo Biak, and Sam Ratulangi Manado, Syamsudin Noor Banjarmasin, Ahmad Yani Semarang, Adisutjipto Yogyakarta, Adi Soemarmo Surakarta, International Airport of Lombok Praya, Pattimura Ambon, and El Tari Kupang.

"This year the company would have five new airports in eastern Indonesia," he said. They are Sentani, Luwuk, Labuan Bajo, Palu, and Tarakan.

The budget fund would be used to build and expand airports including construction of Yogyakarta`s new international airport of Kulonprogo.

The 13 airports recorded 89 passengers in 2017 and the number is almost certain to continue to increase in the coming years, Faik said.

"This year, the number of passengers is predicted to rise to 99 million," he said, adding, last year the company recorded Rp1.4 trillion in profit.
