"We have sent it (the candidate`s name) to the House of Representatives, so just ask them. It is only the name of Perry Warjiyo," President Jokowi said.
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has nominated a single candidate for the post of new governor of Bank Indonesia, the Indonesian central bank.

"We have sent it (the candidate`s name) to the House of Representatives, so just ask them. It is only the name of Perry Warjiyo," President Jokowi said during a visit to the Delta Silicon Industrial Complex in Cikarang, West Java, on Tuesday.

The letter was submitted by the Presidential Secretariat office to the Council on February 23, 2018.

President Jokowi viewed Warjiyo as a potential candidate for his seniority and experience as the deputy governor of Bank Indonesia since 2013.

"I look at every aspect, ranging from his experiences, track records, and achievements to competency. I think he is the most senior official, who is an expert on monetary matters and Bank Indonesia`s policies," he explained.

Hence, President Jokowi believes that Warjiyo will pass the fit and proper test of the Council to take over Bank Indonesia`s chairmanship.

"I think Mr. Perry Warjiyo`s competency is unquestionable," he noted.

Warjiyo is nominated as the new governor of Bank Indonesia for the 2018-2023 term to replace current Bank Indonesia`s Governor Agus Martowardojo, whose his term will end in May.

Warjiyo was inaugurated as Bank Indonesia`s deputy governor through a Presidential Decree on April 15, 2013.

Warjiyo began his career in Bank Indonesia in 1984 after graduating from the University of Gadjah Mada.

Warjiyo had since then served as an official in some senior-level positions, such as assistant governor for monetary, macro-prudential, and international policy making and executive director of the Economic and Monetary Research Department.

Taking into account his years of work with the Indonesian central bank, he had been appointed as executive director of the South-East Asia Voting Group at the International Monetary Fund in 2009, where he represented 13 member countries.
