Mamuju (ANTARA News)- Four elementary school students and a teacher drowned in a river in the District of Mamuju Tengah, South Sulawesi on Sunday.

The bodies of the victims were found at 16.00 local time two hours after they were swept downstream by strong current of the river of Budong Budong in the village of Parigi, a witness said.

The four school students were identified as Tasya (12), Sari (12), Lisda (12), Sari (12) and the teacher was Riska Azis.

"The students and their teacher were out on a recreation in the river when suddenly they were swept by strong current," Syawal a security man said.

The river was not too deep but the current was strong dragging them farther to the middle of the river, he said. (AS)
