Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Supreme Court (MA) has decided to reject the request for a judicial review of former Jakarta governor Basuki Tjahaja Purnama (Ahok)`s case.

"Yes. It was decided this afternoon by the panel of judges. It was rejected," the court`s spokesman Suhadi confirmed ANTARA`s inquiry.

The panel of judges was chaired by Artidjo Alkotsar with Salman Luthan and Sumardijatmo as members. Artidjo has so far been known for his integrity.

Ahok filed a judicial review request through his lawyer on February 2, 2018.

The North Jakarta district has sentenced Ahok to two years in prison for blasphemy.

He committed the crime on September 27, 2016 when he in his speech quoted parties seeking to use Al Maidah 51 verse of the Quran to deceive.

After the incident Islamic organizations held huge demonstrations in the capital city to protest him.
