Pekanbaru, Riau (ANTARA News) - The National Drugs Agency (BNN) has foiled a transnational attempt to smuggle "Chatinone" from Malaysia into Dumai City in Riau Province.

"The arrest was made two days ago. The joint officers of BNN and the Indonesian Customs have seized four sacks of Cathinone, with a total weight of 70 kilograms," Head of the Precaution and Measurement Division of Riau BNN Senior Commissioner Adjunct Haldun stated here on Thursday.

According to Haldun, the seizure was a follow-up of an earlier investigation conducted by the agency in Jakarta.

The BNN and customs personnel conducted further investigation on Tuesday.

The smugglers attempted to bring the Chatinone consignment to Jakarta through Dumai City.

"The drug dealer sent Chatinone from Malaysia to Dumai before it was taken to Jakarta," Haldun added.

However, Haldun noted that the Chatinone was not circulated in Dumai City.

"We did not find Chatinone in Riau Province," he remarked.

Chatinone is a type of narcotics produced from Khat leaves. The Chatinone substance can be produced through a synthetic process and will have a double impact on the users.

The misuse of synthetic Chatinone is potentially harmful to users and similar to psychotropic substances.

The use of Chatinone can have a stronger impact than ecstasy.
