Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Academicians at the Casablanca Hasan II University in Morocco extended a warm welcome to Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan following his arrival at the university, Thursday, where he later delivered a public lecture.

The visiting Jakarta governor was also welcomed with original musical arts and Moroccon local Ahwats dance performances. The governor was also invited to dance along with the artists, who greeted him.

On the occasion, Indonesia`s national anthem "Indonesia Raya" and the Moroccan national anthem "Hymne Cherifient" were played by a band when the flags of both countries were also raised at the event.

Several banners greeting Baswedan were put up on several corners of the campus, one of them being at the main gate of the Hasan II University.

Baswedan, who was once the Indonesian education minister, also delivered a lecture on Indonesian language that originated from Malay language.

On Wednesday (Apr 18), Governor Baswedan acted as the keynote speaker at the Smart City Conference to honor the invitation of Casablanca Mayor Abdeelaziz Omari.

Baswedan spoke during one of the sessions on the Strategic Master Planning Green Urban Development at The Third Edition of Smart Cities African Casablanca.

"Its essence transforms the city, as a provider of public services, into one that involves the collaboration of its citizens," he pointed out.

Speaking at a discussion, Baswedan remarked that "Master Planning Green Urban Development" usually involved structuring development, as the program is run in cities of the world as well as Jakarta.

However, with "master planning green urban development," the role of the community is enhanced as a collaborator and co-creator in maintaining the environment in Jakarta City, with a policy platform created by the government.

Upgrading from City 2.0 to the level of a smart city holds significance.

According to a statement, Casablanca had established sister city cooperation with Jakarta in 1991.

The mayor of Casablanca warmly welcomed a bilateral meeting with Baswedan to discuss the improvement in sister city relations between Jakarta and Casablanca, with focus on areas of cooperation in 2019.
