Manado, N Sulawesi (ANTARA News) - The Creative Economy Agency (Bekraf) is targeting to organize the Coding Mum program in six countries by 2018.

In addition to Indonesia, Education Director of Bekraf Poppy Savitri stated on Monday that her party is targeting to hold the Coding Mum program in Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia, Singapore, Bandar Sri Begawan in Brunei Darussalam, Hong Kong and Shanghai in China, as well as in Seoul in South Korea.

After holding the Coding Mum program in Manado City in North Sulawesi Province, she noted that the activity will continue to be held in several other cities: Surabaya in East Java Province, Samarinda in East Kalimantan, Batam in Riau Islands Province, Sorong in West Papua Province, Pontianak in West Kalimantan Province, Bandar Lampung in Lampung Province, and Palembang in South Sumatra Province.

The activity will present reliable and professional mentors that are strictly selected, so as to create creative economic players in Indonesia.

"Nowadays, creative economic players are needed, as they have become a need of the times," she remarked.

She stated that the Coding Mum program had begun in 2016, and more than 300 participants had successfully graduated.

She noted that the program is also part of Bekraf`s big scenario in order to achieve strategic goals in an effort to absorb the workforce of the creative economy sector, so as to achieve the target of 17 million creative economy players in 2019.

Bekraf is a non-ministerial government institution responsible for the creative economy. The current Head of Bekraf is Triawan Munaf.

Bekraf has the duty of assisting the President of the Republic of Indonesia in formulating, establishing, coordinating, and synchronizing creative economic policies in the fields of application and game development, architecture, interior design, visual communication design, product design, fashion, animation and video film, photography, craft, food, music, publishing, advertising, performing arts, visual arts, as well as television and radio.

Coding Mum is a digital language training program for housewives, Indonesian migrant workers, and persons with disabilities.

The activity has been successfully implemented in six cities in 2016 and eight cities and three countries in 2017.

In 2018, the Coding Mum will be implemented in 14 cities in Indonesia: Jakarta; Bandung in West Java Province; Surabaya, specifically for people with disabilities; Batam; Palembang; Bandar Lampung; Depok in West Java Province; Semarang in Central Java Province; Samarinda; Manado; Kendari in Southeast Sulawesi Province; and Sorong and Jayapura in Papua Province.
