Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Terror convicts have held four police officers hostages at the detention center of the National Police`s Mobile Brigade (Brimob) Command Station in Jakarta`s southern outskirts of Depok, the Indonesia Police Watch (IPW) said.

"Based on information received by IPW, a riot broke out (at the detention center) at 03.00 p.m. on Tuesday and was not controlled immediately. Consequently, at 09.00 p.m., the terror convicts managed to break down the trellis of the detention center. Later, they snatched the police guns and held four police officers hostages, including a policewoman with first inspector rank," Chief of the IPW Presidium Neta S Pane said here on Wednesday.

During the stand-off, police personnel exchanged gunfire with the terror convicts. At around 06.00 a.m. on Wednesday, a number of ambulances were sent to the scene apparently to carry a number of people. At 09.30 a.m., a Disaster Victim Identification (DVI) vehicle entered the detention center compounds.

Therefore, IPW sought a transparent explanation from the police on the incident at the Brimob Command Station on Tuesday night.

"The terrible situation at the Brimob Command Station had not been brought under control until 11.00 p.m. on Tuesday. Public activities were disrupted as the street (in front of it) was blockaded," he revealed.

IPW noted that the riot broke out at the detention center at around 03.00 p.m. on Tuesday. By 10.00 a.m. on Wednesday, the street was still blockaded.

Ironically, the police did not transparently explain the incident, he remarked.

IPW has urged the police to explain the incident and provide information on the number of casualties and injuries and the police guns snatched by the convicts.
