Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Indonesia Police Watch (IPW) has stated that terror convicts still control the detention center of the National Police`s Mobile Brigade Command Station in Kelapa Dua, Depok, West Java, and have held a police officer hostage until Wednesday evening.

In addition, there are 165 terror inmates holding around 30 firearms and 300 rounds of ammunition, Chief of the IPW Presidium, Neta S Pane, said in a press statement released on Wednesday night.

Meanwhile, the police have not successfully cut communication between the terror inmates and their networks outside the detention center, he stated.

It is highly regrettable that the terror inmates have mobile phones while they are in the detention center, he added.

Under these circumstances, IPW is worried that if the police act recklessly, the terror inmates will kill the police officer held hostage and launch a suicide attack, he remarked.

Hence, IPW has expressed hope that the police will act professionally to prevent its officer from falling prey to the terror inmates` brutality.

If the police officer held hostage is killed in the riot, the terror inmates will feel that they have gained a big triumph, he revealed.

"It is quite ironical that while the chief of the Indonesian police is in Jordan to open an exhibition and speak of Indonesia`s success in combating terrorism, a riot has broken out at the Brimob detention center and killed five police officers have been killed," he explained.

The riot has dealt a blow to the Brimob, the National Police`s Counterterrorism Squad Densus 88, and the National Police, as the tragic incident took place at the command station of the police`s elite force.

The IPW also expressed regret over the National Police`s slow response to disclose the riot at the Brimob Command Station transparently.

"The five police officers died at around 01.00 a.m. (on Wednesday), but the death was made public only at 04.00 p.m. Earlier, the police revealed that no fatalities were reported in the riot," he pointed out.
