Manado, N Sulawesi (ANTARA News) - North Sulawesi province exported tuna to Thailand due to its high demand from the country before Eid al-Fitr 2018.

"North Sulawesi exported fresh tuna of 510 kg to Thailand and was able to generate foreign exchange for the country of US$ 5,245," Head of North Sulawesi Industry and Trade Agency Jenny Karouw said here on Friday.

She said the Thai people are very interested in fresh tuna from North Sulawesi because the taste and texture of meat is different from other regions.

"The shipping to Thailand is conducted directly and it happens continuously because the freshness and quality of the fish is maintained," she explained.

he quality of goods is always maintained to keep continuously shipping because the export activity is able to provide foreign exchange for the country.

Thai market is known as one of the countries which is very strict and meticulous in the matter of product quality test.

If they found tuna products which contain harmful ingredients, such as formaldehyde, it will surely be rejected. Fortunately, North Sulawesi`s fishery products are always accepted to the market.

One of the factors causing tuna product in North Sulawesi can be accepted by the world market, because the fishery actors of this region have been able to apply the correct processing process according to international standard.

Fisheries in this area, both fishermen and fish factories, have known the information of how to produce quality fish according to foreign market standards, she noted.

Tuna is one of the fishery products that currently remains the mainstay of exports of North Sulawesi to International markets.
