Bangkok (ANTARA News) - The Indonesian women`s team failed to advance to the Uber Cup 2018 semifinals after losing to host Thailand 2-3 at Impact Arena in Bangkok on Thursday.

The two teams competed toughly until the last match in which Indonesia`s Ruselli Hartawan lost to Busanan Ongbamrungphan of Thailand.

Despite receiving full support from home fans, Thailand had to try hard to face the Indonesian team`s resistance in each of the matches.

Ruselli Hartawan, the world`s 77th ranked player, tried to balance her opponent who is the world`s 22nd ranked player. But she lost to Ongbamrungphan 21-9, 21-12.

With the triumph, Thailand has advanced to the semifinals to play against China, which beat Denmark in the quarterfinals earlier in the day.

In the other Uber Cup match, Japan has moved to the semifinals after outclassing Taiwan 3-1. In the semifinals, Japan will face South Korea which has crushed Canada 3-1.

Indonesia last emerged as Uber Cup champion in 1996.

The Indonesian women team advanced to the quarterfinals after they had become the runner-up in Group D of Uber Cup`s preliminary round where they lost to China, 2-3, at the Impact Arena, on Wednesday.
