Jakarta (ANTARA News) - President Joko Widodo inaugurated Yahya Cholil Staquf as member of the Presidential Advisory Council.

President Widodo inaugurated Staquf as a member of the council during an inauguration ceremony on Thursday held at the State Palace, Jakarta.

Staquf was a former spokesman of Fourth President Abdurrahman Wahid, or Gus Dur.

Staquf`s appointment, as member of the council, is based on Presidential Decree No 84P of 2018 on appointment of members of the Presidential Advisory Council.

Widodo inaugurated Staquf, who took oath of office.

Staquf was appointed as a member to take the place of late ulema Hasyim Muzadi, who passed away on March 16, 2017.

Vice President Jusuf Kalla, Fifth Indonesian President Megawati Soekarnoputri, as well as members of the advisory council along with several ministers attended the inauguration ceremony.

Staquf also served as one of the managers of Nahdlatul Ulama.

Meanwhile, other members of the Presidential Advisory Council are Agum Gumelar, Sidarto Danusubroto, Subagyo HS, Yusuf Kartanegara, Suharso Monoarfa, Jan Darmadi, Abdul Malik Fadjar, and Sri Adiningsih.

Staquf said the president had urged him to become a member of the advisory council.

"It is my duty to accept the president`s request to join the Presidential Advisory Council. I will fulfill the task and duties as well as responsibilities as member of the council by following the proper procedures and ethics," Staquf added.
