Palangka Raya, C Kalimantan, (ANTARA News) - Trade Minister Enggartiasto Lukita has said prices of basic commodities will remain stable and not rise ahead of Eid-al Fitr-festivities.

"Food prices surge seven or eight days before Lebaran; now prices tend to decline. So the prices will not and must not increase. God willing, the prices can be controlled," he said here on Saturday.

The effort to stabilise food prices received support from the food task force and regional governments, including the national logistics agency. They monitored food prices and ensured stocks.

The Minister was speaking after monitoring food prices and stocks at a number of traditional markets in the Central Kalimantan provincial of Palangka Raya.

During the visit to the Grand Market and Kahayan Market in Palangka Raya, the Minister was accompanied by the member of the House Commission VI, Hamdhani, an official of the Central Kalimantan provincial secretariat, Fahrizal Fitri, the chief of Bank Indonesia`s representative office, Wuryanto, and the chief of the Central Kalimantan regional division, Faizal.

The team found that at the Grand Market, which was a wholesale market, food prices were lower than those at Kabayan Market.
