Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The number of traffic accidents during "Operation Ketupat 2018" held during the Eid festivities dropped by 30 percent compared with that in the same period last year, National Police Chief General Tito Karnavian stated.

"The number of accidents went down by 30 percent," Karnavian noted in Jakarta during a coordination meeting on Monday.

The meeting was held to prepare security measures for the implementation of the simultaneous regional head elections across the country.

He said that the number of victims dying in accidents also dropped by 33 percent as compared with that recorded during the same operation held in the previous year.

The police also expressed gratitude to the food task force for its performance in maintaining the stable prices of basic necessities.

In the meantime, Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs Wiranto noted that the government had continued to make efforts to improve infrastructure and intensify security measures, so that the people feel secure and they travel smoothly while heading home to celebrate the Eid or lebaran festivities.

"We have also taken anticipatory measures to prevent the emergence of terror actions," the chief security minister noted.

The coordination meeting and video conference were held to evaluate the implementation of the 2018 Operaton Ketupat from June 7 to June 24, 2018.

The meeting also discussed preparations for organizing the simultaneous regional head elections scheduled on June 27, 2018.
