Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Indonesian Vice President Jusuf Kalla stated that the implementation of the simultaneous elections in 171 regions in the country on Wednesday had been safe, peaceful, and transparent.

"Yesterday, the simultaneous elections in 171 regions ran smoothly and peacefully, and there were no conflicts whatsoever. The election was very peaceful, transparent, and democratic," the vice president said, while speaking at the Jakarta Foreign Correspondents Club (JFCC) here, on Thursday.

Kalla further stated that the secured and controlled electoral condition would determine the implementation of the 2019 general election, given that the election next year will be the most complicated election in the world.

"This will be very important for us, because the election next year will be the most complicated one, in which each voter will cast ballots for five elections, the president and vice president; the House of Representatives (DPR); the provincial, city, and district legislative assemblies; and the regional Representative Council (DPD).

In addition, Kalla explained that the simultaneous elections on Wednesday were not prone to major conflicts, partly due to the pattern of mixed coalition.

Meanwhile, chairman of the General Elections Commission (KPU) also stated that Wednesday?s election had been carried out smoothly, and no disruption was reported.

The KPU Chairman, Arief Budiman, noted at a press conference during the "Election Visit Program" on Wednesday that based on his direct monitoring of several regions, implementation of the elections had been carried out smoothly, and regulations had been followed, although not perfectly.

He admitted that some problems had occurred in several places, but they were small and had not affected the implementation of the elections.
