Padang, W Sumatra (ANTARA News) - West Sumatra Governor Irwan Prayitno is leading a delegation to Morocco from June 27 to July 1 to strengthen cooperation in trade and education in addition to attending an economic forum in Fez-Meknes City.

"We have been invited by the Indonesian Embassy in Morocco. During the visit, we will seek to establish cooperation with Morocco," Head of the Public Relations Bureau of West Sumatra Provincial Secretariat Jasman remarked on Saturday.

West Sumatra had earlier established cooperation in the fields of trade and education with the government of Fez Province in Morocco in 2014. The current visit aims to follow up on the cooperation.

In the trade field, West Sumatra`s arabica and robusta coffee varieties had a good market in Morocco due to high demand among local consumers. Owing to the quality, the coffee varieties were able to compete with other types from several countries, such as Brazil.

Coffee productivity in the province has continued to increase, as the areas of coffee plantation expand.

Meanwhile, in the field of education, several students of West Sumatra, especially from the women`s Islamic Boarding School of Diniyah Putri Padang Panjang, continued their studies, with scholarships in Morocco.

The West Sumatra delegation comprised Head of the Capital Investment and One-Stop Integrated Service Office Maswar Dedi, Head of Cooperation and Development Bureau Luhur Budianda, Head of the Government Bureau Iqbal Ramadi Payana, several business players, and a dance team to attend the Fez-Meknes Economic Forum.

West Sumatra was chosen as the guest of honor and speaker at the forum to elaborate on investment activities and business forum as well as to promote the province`s potential.

The forum was also attended by representatives of Indonesia`s Ministry of Trade.

Through his social media account, the governor of West Sumatra Province stated that the forum offered an opportunity to promote West Sumatra to the world, as it was attended by representatives of governments, local and regional authorities, regional councils, leaders of universities, business partners, contractors, managers, business leaders, investors, and associates.
