Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Indonesia won in several categories in the Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod that took place in Wales, United Kingdom, from July 3 to 8.

According to the written statement received here, Friday, a cultural mission team from Jakarta`s Al-Izhar Pondok Labu School in Jakarta represented Indonesia in the inter-cultural festival Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod, one of the most prestigious musical and dance events in the world.

Every year, around 50 countries send their representatives with about 5,000 contestants in total. For almost one week, 50,000 spectators from the UK and outside of the country would come and see the festival, while at the same time enjoying the beautiful landscapes the northern Wales has to offer.

In the 71st Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod this year, the team successfully won in a number of categories, including 1st place in the C1: Traditional Folk Dance Group, 2nd place in C4: Cultural Showcase and 3rd place in C2: Choreographed/Stylised Folk Dance Group categories.

Additionally, they also won The Dance Champion of Lucille Armstrong Award 2018 as the best dance from the winners of the C1, C2, C3 categories.

Coordinator of Social and Cultural Function of the Indonesian Embassy in London Thomas Siregar stated that the team`s achievements have boosted Indonesia`s name in the international stage through art and culture promotions.

It also makes for a great starting point for the students who wish to go for a career path in arts, he added.
