Palembang, S Sumatra (ANTARA News) - President Joko Widodo visited the Jakabaring Sport City (JSC) in Palembang City, South Sumatra Province, to be used as an arena for the 2018 Asian Games.

The president departed from an inn to JSC at around 8:30 a.m. local time.

On arrival at JSC, Widodo headed to the Gelora Sriwijaya Stadium.

South Sumatra Governor Alex Noerdin updated the president on the construction of the stadium and sports arena.

Widodo also observed the lawn of the stadium.

Minister of Youth and Sports Imam Nahrawi, Minister of Public Works and People`s Housing Basuki Hadimuljono, Minister of Manpower Hanif Dhakiri, State Secretary Pratikno, and Malaysian Youth and Sports Minister Syed Saddiq, among others, were present during the visit.

The Indonesian government continues to raise awareness of the 18th Asian Games in Jakarta and Palembang to be held from Aug 18 to Sept 2.

The South Sumatra provincial government has promoted the event to the public and held a special program to invite several community groups to discuss preparations and benefits of the Asian Games.
