Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Public Works Minister Basuki Hadimuljono said here on Monday that the infrastructure for the Asian Games 2018 has been ready to be inaugurated by President Joko Widodo on Aug 1.

He stated that he had checked the latest condition of Gelora Bung Karno sports complex, and it was ready for inauguration, including the squash hall that had just been completed.

"Infrastructure preparation has been relatively 100 percent ready. Yesterday, I found that the squash venue has been completed. Today, I will send a letter to Widodo informing him that it would be ready for inauguration on Aug 1," he noted.

Hadimuljono, who is in charge of the project, remarked that the cauldron was another facility that has been 90 percent completed and was ready to be tested on July 25.

When asked to comment on the damage to the Jakabaring stadium in Palembang, which would be used as the venue for women`s football, the minister remarked that repair would be done by the provincial government and the management of the stadium.

The newly renovated stadium has been vandalized by football hooligans after local Sriwijaya FC lost 0-3 to Arema FC at League I competition on Saturday.

"In the next two weeks, repair would be done on chairs that had been damaged, totaling around 350, and also the grass," he stressed.

Jakarta and Palembang in South Sumatra will co-host the 18th Asian Games scheduled from Aug 18 to Sept 2.

A total of 40 sport branches would be competed in the biggest four-yearly sporting event in Asia, offering a total of 462 medals.
