Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has arrested 12 people in a sting operation in South Lampung District lasting from late Thursday through early Friday.

"As of this morning, we have arrested 12 individuals. Some of them will be transferred to the KPK office in Jakarta," KPK`s spokesman Febri Diansyah stated here on Friday.

Among the individuals arrested in the operation are South Lampung Regent Zainudin Hasan, legislators, and businessmen.

"The team will take into account its preliminary questioning at the local police headquarters last night," he noted.

During the operation, the commission has confiscated Rp700 million in cash, allegedly linked to an infrastructure project.

Hasan is the younger brother of the People`s Consultative Council`s Chairman Zulkifli Hasan, who is also chairman of the National Mandate Party.

The KPK will have 24 hours to declare the legal status of the arrested persons.
