Makassar, S Sulawesi (ANTARA News)- President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has called on the Indonesian people to maintain national unity and prevent disunity, following the implementation of the regional head elections recently.

"We should keep the national asset by promoting unity, harmony and brotherhood, as well as mutual help and avoid mockery due to pilkada," Jokowi said at Karebosi square, here, Sunday.

The people must also maintain politeness and religious values, the Head of State said before hundreds of thousands of people participating in a fun walk dubbed "the best friend of the people".

The pilkada held in 171 regions was over, now it`s time to work hard and maintain the national unity as well as to show

politeness and friendliness, he said.

"Let`s maintain the national unity, don`t mock each other. Our nation is huge, let`s protect it together by promoting national unity," he stated.

President Jokowi has conducted working visits to South Sulawesi for eight times so far.

Andi Amran Sulaiman, agriculture minister concurrently chairman of the organizing committee of the fun walk, said the OC distributed some 700 thousand coupons for the event.

"There are 700 thousand coupons that have been distributed to the public. The presence of Mr Jokowi today has shown that our President is populist," Sulaiman said.
