Nunukan, N. Kalimantan (ANTARA News) - The Customs authorities of Nunukan, North Kalimantan have foiled an attempt to smuggle 9 kilograms of methamphetamine to the country via the border city from Malaysia.

A customs official said a man carrying a bag tried to rush through the X Ray examination passageway when the officers in charge were about to take rest for lunch.

When he was finally stopped by the customs officers he was found carrying 9 kg of illicit drug in his bag, the official who asked not to be identified said via telephone on Sunday.

The man was then handed over to the Customs and Excise Office in the city .

The man, who carried no document to show his identity told his investigators that he was from South Sulawesi working in Sabah, Malaysia and on his way back to his home village in that province.

He carried the drug from Tawau, Sabah and cross the sea by boat to Sebatik before he arrived in Nunukan.

The man is now in police detention for further investigations, the custom officer said .
