Jakarta, Aug 7 (ANTARA News) -The Indonesian bridge team has completed some trial competition in the United States and Europe, in a bid to train their skills to win two gold medals in Asian Games 2018.

"The Indonesian team had won against tough contenders from the US, whose players won the world`s championship twice and Bridge Olympics four times," Chair of Indonesian Bridge Association Eka Wahyu Kasih said on a statement received here on Tuesday.

While in Europe, the Indonesian team won against France, which became a runner up in Bermuda Bowl.

During the trials in the US, Indonesia won three gold medals, two silvers, and three bronzes during the Atlanta Summer North American Bridge Championship 2018.

Kasih noted that the team had actually been ready to secure the fourth gold medal after passing the final open K.O., but the best duo Hangky Lasut and Eddy Manoppo didi not perform well due to fatigue, and so did teammates Bambang Hartono and Bert Polii in the supermixed team game.

The Indonesian team, which was coached by Kristov Martens, won the gold medals in the Spingold open team K.O.

Before Atlanta, the team had been participating in the three US regional championships, namely in Nashville, Chicago, and Sioux.

While in Europe, the Martens` squad went for trial in Monaco, Turkey, and Bulgaria.

Under the care of a Polish coach Martens and four Indonesian coaches, 32 Indonesian bridge athletes have been training for Asian Games since 2017, including attending some international championship for trials.

The Indonesian bridge team will return from their tour on Wednesday and check in to the Asian Games` Athletes Village on Aug 15.

"Kristov will hold a final briefing with a joint training on Aug 20, prior to the games from Aug 21 to Sept 2," Kasih noted.

The Indonesian Bridge Association has targeted two gold medals from six contests in the Asian Games 2018.
