Jakarta (ANTARA News) - President Joko Widodo has stated the Regional Representative Council (DPD) has continued to strengthen its constitutional role in implementing legislative, advisory and supervisory duties particularly with regard to the implementation of regional autonomy law.

"Since early 2018, DPD has played a significant role in supervising the moratorium on the formation of new regions, the implementation of spontaneously regional elections, the management of demographic affairs, the evaluation of special autonomy, the quality of hajj pilgrimage and the implementation of regulation on teachers` profession and welfare," he said at the annual session of the People`s Consultative Assembly (MPR) at the parliament building here on Thursday.

He said DPD also has supported the use of new and renewable energy and its sustainable management.

In addition, it also has supported the fiscal decentralization policy aimed at creating justice and encouraging regional self-reliance, he said.

"These all have ensured the transfer of fund to regions and the transfer of village fund in accordance with the characteristics and needs of regions," he said.

The head of state also unveiled the performance of state institutions in the past year during the annual session of the MPR held at the parliament building on Thursday.

The session is an annual plenary session of the MPR held as part of activities to mark the country`s independence.
