Bandung, W Java (ANTARA News) - The Malaysian national soccer team, surprisingly, beat South Korea 2-1 in the elimination round of the 2018 Asian Games Group E men`s soccer held at the Si Jalak Harupat Stadium, Bandung District, on Friday night.

Malaysia`s goals were netted by Muhammad Safawi Rashid in the 5th minute, and Rasid Muhammad Safawi in the 45th minute, while the only goal for South Korea was scored by Hwang Ui Jo in the 87th minute.

In the meantime, Malaysia managed to score a quick goal in the 5th minute after Korea`s goalkeeper Song Bumkeun made a mistake while trying to secure the ball.

Song also collided with another player while trying to pick the ball. The ball then left Song`s grip and fell right near the foot of Rashid who was at the back.

After that goal, South Korea dominated the game. Malaysian players were forced to play up to their own defense line.

Korea tried to create several opportunities, but Malaysia`s goalkeeper Muhammad Haziq Nadzli was able to thwart any chance of Korea scoring.

Malaysia only relied on counter-attacks. But Malaysia`s counter-attack in the first round always troubled the Korean defense.

Ahead of the end of the match, Malaysia doubled the advantage through the action of Solo Run, Rasid Muhammad Safawi.

In this match, South Korea was not in full strength. Some of the key players, including those who played against Bahrain, namely goalkeeper Jo Hyeon-Woo and other players, Na Sangho and Jang Yunho, were not fielded.

In the second half, the South Korean team continued to dominate the game.
