Jakarta, (ANTARA News) - Vice President M Jusuf Kalla attended the commemoration for Constitution Day, held by the People`s Consultative Assembly (MPR) here on Saturday.

The Vice President arrived at the MPR Nusantara IV Building around 09.50 WIB. The arrival of the Vice President was accompanied by the Chairperson of the MPR, Zulkifli Hasan.

The commemoration of Constitution Day in 2018 was entitled, `The Constitution Answering the Age Challenge`. On the occasion, a national workshop was also held with a theme `Strengthening the Law Unit of the MPRS (Temporary People`s Consultative Assembly) and the MPR in the Indonesian Legal System`.

The commemoration was opened by the Chairperson of the People`s Consultative Assembly, Zulkifli Hasan, and was attended by a number of high-ranking state leaders.

Constitution Day is set every 18 August to honor the birth of the Indonesian constitution, the 1945 Constitution, which was established at a meeting of the Preparatory Committee for Indonesian Independence (PPKI).

The stipulation of the 1945 Constitution was to ensure unity after the independence of the Republic of Indonesia was proclaimed on August 17, 1945.

Determination of Constitution Day is stated in Presidential Decree 18/2008 signed by President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono on September 10, 2008. Constitution Day is not designated as a national holiday. *** 2 ***
