Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) in cooperation with the Indonesian Defense Forces (TNI), was to sent relief aid and equipment to Lombok Island, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) Province, which was again rocked by a powerful earthquake measuring 7 on the Richter Scale on Sunday evening (Aug 19).

"BNPB Chief Willem Rampangilei has coordinated with the TNI Chief. TNI`s Hercules planes in Halim Perdanakusuma Air Force Base in Jakarta and in Abdurahman Saleh Air Force Base in Malang, will transport relief aid. Several warships are also made ready to send aid if needed," Sutopo Purwo Nugroho, the agency`s spokesman, said in a statement, here, Sunday evening.

The earthquake having VII MMI (Modified Marcelli Intensity), was felt strongly by inhabitants of East Lombok, North Lombok, West Sumbawa, Sumbawa Besar, and Mataram for 5 to 10 seconds.

Inhabitants of Bali, Jember in East Java, and Makassar in South Sulawesi also felt the tremor.

Many Lombok inhabitants rushed out of buildings in panic as there were also a power outage and landslides on Mt Rinjani slope following the earthquake.

The 7-magnitude earthquake rocked Lombok Island at 9:56 p.m. local time (WITA) on Sunday.

The quake`s epicenter was located at 8.28 southern latitude and 116.71 eastern longitude, some 30 km northeast of East Lombok District, and at a depth of 10 km, according to the Indonesian Agency of Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics (BMKG), here on Sunday.

On the same evening, a fire broke out on Bangin Isle, Sumbawa, West Nusa Tenggara. The cause of the fire was not known yet. Bangin Isle is very crowded.

Earlier on the day, a 6.5 magnitude earthquake jolted Lombok Island at 12:10 local time (WITA).

On Aug 5, 2018, Lombok Island was devastated by 7-magnitude earthquake that killed some 460 people.
