Jakarta (ANTARA News) - As many as three gold medals will be contested on the second day of the 2018 Asian Games taekwondo sports at the Senayan Jakarta Convention Cengter (JCC Senayan) on Monday.

The three gold medals, respectively for make and female athletes under 53 kg, 58 kg, and 67 kg, will be contested in three matches, starting at 9 on Monday morning.

For under 53 and 58 kg, it will start with the 32 major preliminary round, under 67 kg will start with 16 major preliminary round.

In addition to three gold, three silver medals and six bronze medals will also be contested.

Total of 14 gold medals will be contested at the 2018 Asian Games taekwon sports.

Earlier on Sunday evening, President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) expressed great pride that Indonesian female taekwondo athlete Defia Rosmaniar won the first gold medal.

Taekwondo is a Korean martial art, characterized by its emphasis on head-height kicks.

On his official twitter account @jokowi on Sunday around 7:00 p.m. Western Indonesia Standard Time (WIB), President Jokowi gave a special congratulation to Defia.

"Congratulations to Defia Rosmaniar, a female taekwondo athlete who won the first gold medal in the 2018 Asian Games for Indonesia," the head of state remarked.

The gold medal by the Indonesian female taekwondo athlete made the president proud, and optimistic that other athletes from the country will make their best achievements.
