Palembang, S Sumatra (ANTARA News) - Lebanon won a gold medal in the shooting event of Asian Games 2018 here on Tuesday, through Ray Bassil and Alain Moussa.

The shooters were entitled to a gold medal after collecting 43 points in the mixed group trap discipline.

Their victory was important for Lebanon as it had so far never won a gold medal from the Asian international event.

The Lebanese athletes defeated Yichun Lin and Kunpi Yang from Chinese Taipei, with only a deficit of one point, resulting in a silver medal for the shooters from Chinese Taipei.

Chinese Xiaojing Wang and Yu Du collected 31 points to win a bronze medal.

"This is extraordinary. Winning a gold medal is not an easy thing," Bassil remarked after the victory.

The 29-year old shooter noted that their rivals were all great, while on the other hand, Lebanon was not quite a favorite.

"We have been through tight competition. Thank God, we could do the best," she added.

She stated that it was not easy to play in Indonesia with its tropical climate, as proven before during the women`s trap event during which she could not perform maximally.

However, with Moussa she was proven to play optimally.

"The weather was very hot but it was not a problem. We have shown it. It was no longer a problem," sheadded.
