Jakarta, (ANTARA News) - President Joko Widodo and First Lady Iriana Joko Widodo on Wednesday watched the badminton final match of the 2018 Asian Games team between Indonesia and China.

Jokowi and Mrs. Iriana arrived at the Bung Karno Sports Palace in Senayan, Jakarta, at around 17.25 WIB.

The president wore a white shirt, blue trousers, and a red jacket. Mrs. Iriana also wore red clothes.

On arrival at Istora Senayan, they occupied the VVIP position at the sports palace.

Jokowi was accompanied by Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Wiranto, Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture Puan Maharani, and Sports Minister Imam Nahrawi.

Previously, after performing Eid al-Adha at the Tegar Belief Field in Cibinong, Bogor Regency, West Java, on Wednesday, the Head of State expressed hope that Indonesian athletes competing in the 2018 Asian Games could achieve the target set.

"We wish to achieve the target that has been given with all our strength," he remarked.

The president expressed joy on the acquisition of medals and motivated other athletes who were yet to compete.

"Alhamdulillah (thank to God), we got a gold last day from weightlifting, through Eko Yuli. I think we should be grateful. Hopefully, we will be able to add more medals," he noted.

The Indonesian men`s badminton team stepped into the final match of the 2018 Asian Games team number after defeating the Japanese men`s badminton team with a score of 3-1 in the semifinal round.

In the semifinal round, the victory was gained by double pair Marcus Fernaldi Gideon-Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo and Fajar Alfian-Muhmmad Rian Ardianto and Jonatan Christie`s men`s singles.

Japan obtained one point through Kento Mamato after defeating Indonesian men`s single athlete Anthony Ginting. *** 2 ***
