Palembang, S Sumatra, (ANTARA News) - Defending champion North Korea lost to China 0-2 in their last match in the group B encounter at the Asian Games 2018 on Wednesday night.

The result means that China topped the group, with 9 points, ahead of North Korea in the second place, with 6 points, and Hong Kong in the third place, with 3 points. Tajikistan, which lost in all the group B matches, was at the bottom.

The match between China, which is ranked 17th, and North Korea, which is ranked 10th in the world, was tight soon after the match started.

China had a chance in the 2nd minute when its striker Wang Shanshan moved quickly to the heart of North Korea`s defense. But during the head-to-head against North Korean goalkeeper, Weng`s strong shoot could be overcome.

North Korea had a chance in the early minutes of the game when the ball reached the penalty area but was out of the reach of the striker`s head.

China made the first goal through its forward Wang Shuang in the 8th minute, after he managed to pass through two North Korea defenders.

Four minutes after the second half began, China netted another goal through Wang Shanshan`s head using a corner kick.
